FOS has published its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) following official endorsement by Reconciliation Australia.
The RAP is a public statement of what FOS is doing to become an organisation that understands, respects and best serves Australia’s First Peoples.
It is a detailed action plan to enable FOS to build a culturally competent workforce that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, and provide an accessible and welcoming service to these consumers.
FOS Lead Ombudsman – Banking and Finance, and RAP sponsor Philip Field said: “The RAP gives shape to work we are already doing, such as engaging with Indigenous financial counsellors, financial capability workers and community lawyers, and provides a focus for improving our dispute process by evaluating the way we engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers.
“Gaining a better understanding of the cultures and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will enable us to provide a better service.”
The actions in the RAP outline how FOS will:
- identify opportunities to better serve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples accessing our service
- develop programs to support our growth as a culturally competent and respectful organisation
- build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations
- partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups to deliver effective outreach and engagement programs.
